Dr G Spartans dominated the first week fixtures of the maiden edition of the Ghana Lacrosse League. The Spartans from Kuntu, and Saltpond Lacrosse travelled to Accra on Thanksgiving Day to faceoff Accra Rangers and Legonknight Lacrosse Club in the second round of games.
Match Day 1
The U15 boys team of the Spartans and Saltpond Lacrosse kicked off the Ghana Lacrosse League in style at the Kuntu Sports Field on Saturday, 20th of November 2021.
Saltpond won by 5-4 with Emmanuel Sackey scoring three goals in the warm up game. Player of the match was Saltpond’s goalie, Richard Quagraine who made eight saves with one assist.
In the men’s game, Claude Kouamelan of Dr G Spartans put in a shift in the fourth quarter to score four against Saltpond lacrosse. The game ended 12-8 in favor of the Spartans from Kuntu. Both teams from the Central Region travelled to Accra on Thanksgiving Day to play Accra Rangers and Legonknight Lacrosse at Lincoln Community School.
Match Day 2
Accra Rangers and Saltpond Lacrosse opened the Thanksgiving Day lacrosse fixture on 25th of November 2021 at Lincoln Community School’s Church Field. Saltpond Lacrosse beat the home team 11-10 in a fierce battle. Gregory Sackey was named player of the match after scoring two goals and assisting four others.
The Spartans from Kuntu produced a fine display against Legonknight Lacrosse, from University of Ghana, by winning 11-4. Claude Kouamelan put in a brilliant performance to score 5 goals to be named the best player of the game.
Accra Rangers vs Saltpond Lacrosse
The head coach of Ghana Lacrosse, Dr Brian Gorodetsky was present at the game to give some tips to the athletes. The president of Ghana Lacrosse, Rufus Ntiamoah and officials Lincoln Nyade, Francis Okine, Kwamena Thompson and Emmanual Domie were at the venue to ensure the players and fans enjoyed the sports of lacrosse in the capital city.
